Things are going great so far!

We have been so busy learning and having fun that I have gotten away from my little side project.  I promise to try my best to blog and add pictures each week!  The kiddos are doing a great job learning our routines and following school rules.  We have been reviewing our rules each day so ask your child what it looks like to BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE AND BE RESPECTFUL in our school.

One of the high points of each week is show-and-tell!  Show-and-tell is an important activity that allows each kid to have time in the spot light.  It also helps to build confidence when speaking in front of a group.  Check out some of the cool items that we have to share!

The kids also seem to love reading buddy time.  Each child has a third grade buddy.  We get together once each week to share stories, work on the computer and complete crafts.  It is also fun for the kindergarten students to pass their buddy in the hall.  What is cooler than having a third grade friend give you a hug or high five!?

The Big Orange Splot!!!
We are still working through our unit on color words.  The kids seem to be having a lot of fun learning the songs to help spell each color word.  If you haven’t already heard them, make sure you ask your kindergartener to sing them for you.  They are constantly running through my head at home.

Our focus today was orange.  We started with the story, The Big Orange Splot, by Daniel Pinkwater.  In the story, Mr. Plumbean decides it’s okay to be different from his neighbors, and paints his house with lots of crazy colors.  We had a great time designing our dream houses complete with a big orange splot of our own!

We have been learning about color words this week.  Today we spent some time, while meeting the green color monster, talking about mixing primary colors to make new colors.  We read Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni.  In this story, little blue and little yellow hug, turning into little green...much to their parents surprise!

After hearing the adventures of little blue and little yellow, we made our own little green with play doh.    Look how much fun we had!

Our first day of school was wonderful, so very much fun! The children came in ready to learn and seem to be picking up on the rules and expectations very quickly.  Kindergarten is often a big adjustment but it seems that these guys are really getting the hang of things!!  Here are some photos of the first day.

Can you believe that we have the class of 2026?!!

Welcome to Kindergarten!!

Welcome students, parents and friends! This blog is designed to give you an inside peek into our kindergarten class! As a parent myself, I know how curious I am when it comes to my little one at school. I hope that through this blog, you are able to see how we spend our days learning and having fun!

A little bit about Mrs. Grubish...

Who is this person that will be teaching my child for the next year?  Here is my life in a nutshell...

I feel very privileged to be able to spend my time with your little ones!  I am speaking from my heart when I tell you how much I enjoy them all.  This is my ninth year in the classroom and my fifth year in kindergarten.  When I am not at school, I spend my days with my own family.  My husband Ryan and I have been married for six years.  We have two little girls, Samantha and Frances, and little dog Zoe.  We live nearby in Ft. Wright.  I attended Beechwood for kindergarten, Blessed Sacrament for elementary school and Notre Dame Academy for high school.  I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky and attained my Master's from Northern Kentucky University.  I enjoy spending time outside playing with my girls or working in the yard.

Here is my family last fall before the birth of little Francie.
